With just over two months until WWDC 2009 and a
potential iPhone announcement, the rumour mill has swung back into action, this time bigging up a new camera for the world–beating blower.
According to
Digitimes, Omnivision has bagged the order for a bulk of 3.2MP sensors for the next–gen iPhone. That would still put Apple's phone well off the pace of the
Nokia N97 and especially the 12MP–toting
Sony Ericsson Idou.
Word is that they've also received orders for 5MP sensors for "another Apple product", with suggestions flooding in that this could be for anything from the next–gen iPod Touch or even for use as a webcam in a MacBook.
Our thoughts? A 3.2MP camera would certainly make sense and fit in with iPhone 3.0's commitment to MMS. But with a 5MP sensor also planned, don't bet against a beefed up, higher tier iPhone rather than a camera–packing Touch.
As ever, let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
