January can be a gloomy time, but not for us gadgeteers. To distract us from dark mornings and turkey curries, we’ve got the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, where the great and good of the tech world meet to show off their latest toys.Stuff will naturally be brawling with thousands of other journos to bring you the latest announcements live. To make sure our excite-o-meter doesn’t blow we’ve made you this, a list of the most eagerly anticipated CES gadgets: 1.) LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player. LG has called a ceasefire in the hi-def format wars by announcing a debut for the world’s first dual-format player. It could, we hope, be the first of many.2.) Vistagami. The nickname for the next generation of Vista-powered UMPCs, we’re hoping the new OS, inclusion of slide-down keyboards and improved battery life will make them genuine laptop alternatives. 3.) Mitsubishi laser TV. It claims to be half the weight of existing plasmas, consume a third of the power and have a much brighter, clearer picture. We’ll see, Mitsubishi, we’ll see. 4.) Samsung YP-K3. Remember a rather splendid MP3 player with a slide-out speaker called the K5? This is its new brother, sans speaker but avec new svelte sexiness.5.) 3D TV (pictured). Samsung, Philips and LG are all expected to be showing their attempts at bringing the third dimension to the goggle box. We’ll be there to find out if it’s as good as it sounds.Click on for the second part of our list.
