‘Cupcake’ Android update hitting T-Mobile G1 in April

12 MAR 2009
The first major update for Android isn’t far off, according to T-Mobile. The network just confirmed to us that it’s bringing the so-called ‘Cupcake’ update to its G1 Android phone next month, and it’s going to add a ton of new features.

The goodies you can expect include a decent onscreen keyboard, the ability to record video clips, a voice recorder, stereo Bluetooth and the ability to save MMS attachments.

Vodafone will be launching the second Android phone, the HTC Magic at around the same time, so it seems likely that T-Mobile is unleashing Cupcake as a way to keep the G1 fresh, up to date and in the headlines. Which has worked out quite nicely.
