The Magic Wheel – a penny farthing on acid

The original Magic Wheel was a bogus perpetual motion machine invented in medieval Bavaria. The modern Magic Wheel is a seemingly impossible, giant-wheeled scooter but, unlike its namesake, this one actually works.

It may look like the modern equivalent of the penny farthing on acid but it's remarkably slick at getting from A to B - just take a peak at the website videos.

With footplates either side of the main wheel it's a little unconventional as scooters go - but then so is having a 26in wheel spinning between your legs. Thankfully there's some sleek moulded plastic to protect your unmentionables, enabling you to lean the Magic Wheel against your inside leg as you power with the other, thus achieving balance and motion. Simple really.

Direction is controlled by leaning and with both feet on board you can freewheel to your heart's content. Sadly, like the original magic wheel, it will need a push every now and then.
