We told you earlier that we were
expecting a Nokia and Microsoft announcement later on today, and right on time the expected alliance of the two corporate giants was confirmed with the news that Nokia smartphones are to get Microsoft Office Mobile across the board.
The agreement between the two companies will see them collaborating on the "design, development and marketing" of solutions to make life easier for business types on the go.
This will at least start with the expansion of Microsoft Office Mobile to all Nokia smartphone users worldwide, which will allow them to work on Office docs wherever they are.
Nokia said it planned to start shipping smartphones with Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile from next year, and that other Office apps would follow in the future.
This will include mobile-optimised versions of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Excel and OneNote, Enterprise instant messaging, access to intranet and extranet portals built on Microsoft SharePoint Server and Enterprise device management with Microsoft System Center.
There was no exact date as to when we can expect this to begin rolling out in 2010, but we will of course be keeping you updated with all we hear. Let us know what you think to the collaboration below.
