Microsoft turns its Surface into a Sphere

Microsoft Sphere – what's wrong with an inflatable globe?
Not content with sticking their Surface interactive table into Vegas gambling dens and snooty New York restaurants, Microsoft has been showing off its latest touchscreen wonder, the Sphere.

As you can probably guess from the pic and the, er, name, the new model is shaped liked a globe and can do tons of neat tricks. Use it to spin your way round an interactive version of our planet, play a somewhat convoluted version of Pong and even watch 360-degree video.

According to the super geeks at the Big M, it’s more advanced than the Surface, using infrared to detect hand movements.

It’s due to get it’s first public airing next week, but don’t expect to see it sitting in your local Shipley’s Amusements any time soon. It’s strictly a prototype. You can check out more at Seattle PI.
