Official BlackBerry Twitter app incoming

RIM has taken to its blog to show off its first official Twitter app for BlackBerry, and with a public beta on its way, it might not be long ’til you can get your mitts on it.

Of course, there are other third-party Twitter apps out there, but they’ve often fallen short of expectations. Now it seems RIM decided enough was enough and took to designing an app in-house instead.

The interface is simplistic and tightly tied-in with BlackBerry’s OS so you’ll be able to post photos to Twitter from your photo album, for example.

The homepage has shortcuts to @replies, your profile, direct messages, people and topic searches and trending topics.

It will also support push messaging to allow you to get a buzz when you receive a direct message, automatic bit.ly link shortening and the ability to search for tweeters in your area by tracking your GPS location.

RIM is currently testing the app in a closed beta, but is looking for feedback on the features announced to find out what users want. It already said its working on geotagging, lists, profile editing and the ability to access multiple accounts.
