iPhone OS 3.0 – iPhone now supports MMS and Spotlight

After sitting through news of TouchPets, Leaf Trombone and, er  Diabetes testing, the big iPhone 3.0 OS news has finally hit – and yes, it is that the iPhone wil support MMS.

In a bold move that sees Apple add functionality that most basic phones have had for years, you’ll soon be able to fire your mates messages complete with images. Again, hardly ground-breaking news, but as far as the iPhone is concerned it’s the addition we’ve all been waiting for.

In addition to a spruced-up App Store, cut, copy and paste functionality and a landscape keypad, you’ll  also be able to forward and delete multiple messages and make voice memos while the new Spotlight homepage (shown as an app on your homescreen) means that you can search iPod, Mail, Calendar and contacts to search for content on your iPhone in a fuss-free way. Nice.

You’ll have to wait until the Summer to see this added iPhone goodies – as expected, iPhone OS 3.0 will be free to all iPhone 3G owners, but again, Apple has decided to charge iPod Touch users – $9.95 in the States, so probably the best part of a tenner over here too.

What do you think? Did Apple miss anything out? Are iPod Touch users being unjustly penalised? HAve your say below.
