Kodak unleashes cut price cams

Kodak – always cutting prices

When it comes to digicam sensors, CMOS has long been the ugly sister to its 'superior' CCD sibling. Oft maligned as the cheaper alternative, it's been consigned to camphone and fixed lens budget duty.

But CMOS has also had a rarely seen glamorous side. Early top-end CMOS chips found their way into the first DSLRs and lately they've even cropped up in the mind-blowing Canon EOS 1D Mark III – yours for £3000.

So have we overlooked CMOS? Kodak thinks so. It's set to pack a slew of cut-price cams with its next-gen CMOS sensors promising great colour, hitherto unseen levels of dynamic range and noise-free snaps.

First off the rolling block is the 5MP C513 (pictured) with a bog standard 3x optical zoom and 2.4in LCD but a highly attractive $100 (£50) price tag.

Expect more to follow – and prices to tumble. Hoorah!
