Other minor tweaks include increased RAM as standard, up from 1GB to 2GB, and a larger hard disk, 120GB rather than 100GB. You can also now ramp the RAM up to 4GB, stick in a 200GB hard drive and up the graphics memory to 256MB if the mood takes you. The option of a 17in widescreen remains but that lacks the lovely new LED backlighting.
The built-in iSight webcam is still there, as are two USB2 and two Firewire ports, an Express Card Slot, Bluetooth, Airport Wireless 802.11n and an 8X dual layer DVD writer. More USB ports and support for next gen formats via an optional Blu-ray or (less likely thanks to Jobsy's Disney shares) HD-DVD drive remain high on our 'What Apple Should Add Next' wishlist.
Undeniably gorgeous
While iLife 06 is a great software suite we're hoping iLife 08 will come bundled with new Macbook Pros sooner rather than later. It's not that the older versions of iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband are suddenly sub-par, it's just that the constant entreaties to purchase the updated package can be a little cloying, especially if you've just shelled out for lovely new laptop.
It goes without saying that the Macbook Pro is still gorgeous to look at and use. The brushed aluminium design is undeniably beautiful and the fact that it's lost even more weight, dropping 0.1kg to weigh in at 2.45kg, is astounding. Touches like the ability to illuminate the keyboard when you're using it in a darkened environment and the quick release Magsafe powercable mean it remains the most stylish solution in the land of laptops.
