Stuff says
A slim and sharp-looking portable emailer, but that keyboard might be an acquired taste
PREVIEW
Nokia did its fair share of limelight-hogging at Mobile World Congress 2009 with the release of its new business phones. Top of the heap was the E55, a slim and sharp-looking emailing smartphone with a few media tricks up its skinny jeans.
Hybrid keyboard
Nokia has lost a lot of the chunk associated with work mobiles by opting for what it’s calling a ‘hybrid keyboard’. This is identical to the SureType pads used on certain BlackBerrys where two letters share a button, helped along by T9 text predication.
Review continues after the break...
Inside, there’s the mail, calendar and contact features you’d expect plus some cool media functions. You’ll get AGPS, a 3.2MP camera, FM radio and a 3.5mm jack to plug in your own cans.
Good connections
There’s up to 16GB SD support for your media, while Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and HSDPA will have it whipping about the web, including easy access to Facebook and YouTube.
And if you actually get around to calling someone, the active noise reduction will apparently reduce background sounds in noisy areas.
Thankfully, the small size doesn’t mean you’ll be scrabbling for a power point every few hours as standby time is an impressive 31 days, so you can have a hearty laugh at iPhone users.
We’ll have a full review soon, but check out our hands-on pics of the E55 live from MWC 09.
