Stuff says
Panny’s wafer thin plasma is all set to be a skinny home cinema must-have
Considering most plasmas are, by definition, slim Jims, it’s difficult to justify wanting the world’s thinnest on practical grounds.
But there’s no denying thin TVs are both cool and in, and Panasonic’s 54in Viera Z1 is the most emaciated yet with a profile of just one inch.
Picture perfect
Now it’s not just enough making a plasma TV that’s thinner than your favourite pair of undies – it has to perform well too.
Luckily, the Z1 is full of promise, with a 40,000:1 contrast ratio for deep space blacks and bright, Daz Ultra whites as well as 600Hz Sub-field Drive to improve HD motion tracking.
Fully connected
In these connected times, we want a TV to show us more than just what’s coming over the airwaves, or in our collection of vids. We want to be able to pull in media and info from the web as well, and the Z1 doesn’t disappoint.
With the Viera Cast feature you can have access to content from YouTube, Google and Amazon’s on-demand video service.
Footloose and wire-free
Unsightly wires have no place in your home either, so Panny’s wireless HD set-top box takes care of this too, streaming hi-def pics to the panel.
The Z1 might even be good for your conscience, as NeoPDP technology means that it apparently uses a third of the energy of previous plasmas to achieve the same brightness.
