UPDATE – check out our hands-on video.

Just like the Samsung Innov8, Samsung’s new handset joins the 8MP camphone gang with an equally, er, evocative name.

The Pixon is Sammy’s first touchscreen 8MP effort and, like its suspiciously similar rival, the LG Renoir, its got a slim (13.8mm), fashion-forward build.

Unlike the Renoir, however, the touchscreen is way more responsive, as you’ll see in our hands-on video. As with any self-respecting touchscreen phone, there’s also an accelerometer, so picture viewing can happen in portrait or landscape on the 3.2in screen at the flick of a wrist.

As for the camera itself, there’s a 16x zoom and plenty of functions you’d find on a stand-alone snapper, including autofocus, anti-shake mode, panoramic shooting, smile mode and LED flash. There’s also geotagging to remind you of your exact location on your more blurry of nights.

There's a video option too, natch, and DivX and xVid are both supported, although the Renoir offers much more in the way of multimedia treats. Call-wise, there’s HSDPA 3G, although WiFi is another omission, and there's only 200MB of onboard storage, although supported by SD.

We’ll be getting you a full in-depth review pronto, but in the meantime, check out our hands-on video.
