PREVIEW

If you’re tired of Daily Mail-reading pensioners prattling on about our surveillance society, Wowwee’s come up with a great way to make them even more paranoid – a spherical video camera called the Spyball.

That’s right, this disturbingly stealthy ‘toy’ contains a pop-out webcam which will take video or stills and pipe them back to its cupboard-based owner over Wi-Fi faster than you can say ‘Crimewatch’.

Roly-poly CCTV
We’re being facetious, of course – what possible nefarious activities could a ten year old get up to with a ball-shaped camcorder that can be controlled over via a computer or phone via Wi-Fi?

What’s certain is that you won’t see the Spyball coming. It moves pretty much silently and can do full 360 turns to make sure it escapes your dog’s claws.

Easy setup
You don’t need to access the web to see what the Spyball sees either – you can apparently just make an ad hoc connection via pretty much any Wi-Fi connected device.

If that's too complicated for you, then it comes with a USB cable so you can set up a network nice and quickly.

The Spyball is slated for a winter 2009 release in the US, priced at around $170. We’ll keep you posted on news of its UK release, but for more info see our CES live blog.
