Modern Warfare 2: will you be buying?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out at midnight tonight, and with the news that Sainsbury's will be selling it for £26, even the less hardcore fans are likely to be tempted to buy a copy.

Among the noteworthy features in this latest release are: special ops missions in which you whittle down a set number of bad guys until you're the last one standing; a fast-paced snowmobile race; and a particularly grizzly opening scene that has churned the stomachs of some early testers.

Are you put off by the violence? Or does more gore equal a better game? Maybe you're a younger gamer who has get someone else to buy the 18-rated game for you (or maybe you can buy it anyway)? Let us know in the comments.

In the meantime, check out these tasty screenshots...

Whether or not you snap up a copy at midnight tonight, stay tuned for our review very soon.

davejameson that is exactly the reason why Parliament are up in arms about games with adult content, shops don't see games as an item that should be restriced to the age certification is it given, so people not applicable to the age that the certification states should NOT be buying it, regardless of what you have seen in films.

If shops stuck to the certification we wouldn't have as much young people playing it online (in my opinion ruining the internet play) as we do (personally I am happy for a 16 old to be playing it as I see 15/16 as the age where kids don't really make asses of themselves, althought adults can and do tend to do it too).

The game is excellent, although I managed to get it pre-release, when the trophies weren't active, so had to restart the game after the midnight opening date to get them. The pace is excellent, all the wished-for improvements are there, and the plot is OK, although a bit 'James Bond' for my liking. The so called 'Nasty Level' was very gratuitus, but essential to the plot when you play it through to the final scence. Let's remember here that the game is geared at adults who know the difference between pixels and thinking, feeling people.

Mike1lu - there is no legislation in the UK for game classification. The age restrictions on the games are guidelines (as reccommended by the PEGI) and therefore retailers are not breaking the law by selling these games to minors. It is up to the parents of underage children to educate them to be responsible for their buying decisions.
