BBC iPlayer going HD this month

BBC iPlayer has been getting everywhere of late - PMPs, boxee on Apple TV and Freesat to name just a few. But today's announcement that the service is going HD too has really stoked our passion for Auntie's VOD service.

Speaking at a conference today, the director of BBC Vision, Jana Bennett, who's in charge of iPlayer, said the BBC HD Channel would be up for grabs by the end of the month.

She failed to say whether we'd be getting 1080p or what speed your broadband would need to be. But hook it up to your TV and you're looking at HD Eastenders without Sky or Freesat. Awesome!

Im guessing it'll be freeeeee? And any news on if its going to be part of BT Vision at all? Ta very mucho

1080p? I highly doubt that.

HD satellite and over-the-air broadcasts are only 720p(as far as I know), and I'd doubt if Apple's own HD movies on iTunes are in 1080p.

Just another reason to get the highly underrated AppleTV - install Boxee and have iPlayer HD goodness on your tv for free - can't wait  :)

Will be good if they put this on PS3 in high def as well

I like the way they're using Tom D's 1st Gen iPhone running Voda as the showpiece :D
