problems using cam on my new mac

I'm using aMSN because Microsoft msn isn't cam enabled. When using amsn, about 20 seconds after accepting a cam invite it comes up saying that the invitation was cancelled. Its most infuriating!

I have set aMSN to allow all connections etc on my firewall. Anyone have any ideas? and also, why isn't Microsoft msn cam enabled on macs?

cheers

Hmmm... have you tried Google Video or Skype?? Seems to work OK with my imac, & I didn't have to change any firewall/router settings.

Re: problems using cam on my new mac

use skype with my sister who lives abroad and the cam is fine. but MSN is where all my friends live and I cant ask them all to sign up to skype.

its really making me regret getting a mac. surely having a working cam function must be simple enough, but it isn't an available feature on the mac version of msn.

I use aMSN. If you are using Snow Leopard I would suggest using this build of aMSN: http://www.notjustanothermacuser.com/?p=beta

Re: problems using cam on my new mac

Another reason why using Windows would be a better idea than using Macs:

Less compatibility issues on Windows.

Oh, and you're obviously gonna run into problems like this for two reasons. Firstly, more software is made by PCs because they're far more popular than Macs. And secondly, because it's more popular, speaking to your friends, who will all be using PCs running Windows or, on rarer occasions, Linux, you're gonna run into compatibility issues.

Steve

If I were a moderator (which I'm not, but could be in the blink of an eye), I might take umbrage with the fact that your signature points at a site that slags off the magazine for its Anti-Windows bias...

Just a thought.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to slag the magazine off. I love it, I buy every issue and read it from cover to cover (skipping the classified ads, they're boring). The magazine is brilliant, like I mentioned on my site, but it does kinda get to me when I see writers using their well-developed and obviously brilliant skills to be bias against something.

To Steve Williams:

This chap is after sound tech advice, which is what this forum is supposed to be about. So if you haven't got anything useful to contribute on the subject, why comment? Anyway, seems odd that there is a cam issue specifically with MSN, yet Skype etc. OK?? Microsoft not wanting to make their products work with other OSs??????

Ahhh, you think there's a monopoly? Good thinking, didn't occur to me. Does seem strange...

Sorry about being all critical, still getting used to this forum's 'etiquette', if you will, after spending months on forums where slanging out products is commonplace.

I think this comment smacks of censorship actually

Hi guys, I agree that it is odd that skype has no problems and msn does.... I have overcome the problem by purchasing parallels desktop and windows 7. When i need to cam i now run microsoft's msn within a virtual PC on my mac.

Thanks :)

So you are saying you cannot use mac cam for MSN?

 Surely that cannot be right?
