Fair use policy

Is there actualy a network that does give you " unlimited data " when they say they do ? I was told in the T-mobile shop that they can offer me unlimited internet, i said your sure thats " unlimited " he said yes but looking on t-mobile's site the fair use policy says that every customer is limited to 1gb per month (depending on your plan) and you cant use it for p2p file shairing (not a problem) or instant messaging, that does bother me, audio and video streaming is also against the T&Cs for some networks. Looking at the T&Cs of vodafone and orange they to have a fair use policy of  500mb which is very little these days. Orange also has there unlimited texts capped at 3000 which i admit i couldnt use in a month but still its not unlimited. Tesco's £30 a month unlimited calls, text and data plan is also subject to fair usage and gives you £500 to spend.

Why cant they just tell us what we are getting instead of sugar coating it !

Re: Fair use policy

I agree, They shouldn't be allowed to get away with saying it as it is clearly lies, some peoples 'Fair Usage' may be more then what other peoples might be.

As far as I recollect, certainly with ISP's the only one is Sky. remember gadget show covered this. and they are the one who are truly unlimited. Although arn't you quoting for hand set's? As i know the Orange iPhone is limited to 750mb and the rest are 500mb which is a LOT for a hand set. if you can get 1Gb limit on a phone go for it!

Re: Fair use policy

I think someone should get in contact with the OED, there's more chance that they would change the definition of the word 'unlimited' than change the policies of bastardised companies now. I'm surprised that the iPhone is limited to 750mb though on Orange. Considering you're able to stream Spotify/Last using the phone I'm surprised most people don't come close to exceeding that limit. I have a 1GB limit on mine, and notice how much bandwidth is consumed when I stream Spotify whilst tethering my phone.

I've only ever exceeded it once, and thankfully they just send an SMS warning to stop until the contract rolls over. Although, I've found that it's possible to be warned if you consume your allowance too quickly, like when I used about 100mb in about 10minutes.

Yeah, I remember that. But that was only after Suzi accused them of something, so they were really obliged to.

Re: Fair use policy

It is pretty shady of them, it's not like many people go over their limit.

Re: Fair use policy

I hate this because it is clearly lying but from the gadget show i can remember that they (ISPs) have never had to use the fair usage policy. I was very surprised when orange limited data allowance to 750 MB but i thought it was probably so it doesn't all go into meltdown like 02 last year, if thats the case they will probably advance on 750.
