HTC One X9 camera will have RAW support and OIS
HTC reveals details of upcoming smartphone as new photos leak out
Up to now we haven’t heard anything official about the One X9, HTC’s rumoured next smartphone – but today the company revealed a few details concerning its camera.
In a post teasing “what’s next after A9”, HTC said that the forthcoming phone would have a new 13MP camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and the option to shoot in RAW.
Neither of these features is new to the world of smartphone photography, of course, but a camera boasting both has a potential to be very capable indeed. OIS counters the effects of unsteady hands, helping to produce sharper photos and smoother videos, while RAW still images retain all the data captured by the sensor, giving the user more scope to edit them later in programs like Photoshop or Lightroom.
HTC’s tease didn’t actually name the next phone as the One X9, but we’d be willing to bet a substantial amount on that being the case. Back in November we saw the first credible-looking image of the phone, along with some rumoured specs: 2K 5in screen, 4GB of RAM, Snapdragon 820 CPU and a 3500mAh battery. All of that should, of course, be taken with a pinch of salt, as the same report claimed there’d be a 23MP camera as well – and a TENAA registration spotted later suggests that the specs may be significantly different: 5.5in 1080p screen; 2GB of RAM; and 2.2GHz octa-core processor.
At the same time as HTC released its info, Chinese site Anzhuo published a handful of images purporting to show the One X9 off in the flesh. If accurate, they suggest that the X9 will follow HTC’s recent trend of making handsets that look a lot like the iPhone 6.
