Eee PC S101 gets priced up

That new MacBook and MacBook Pro looking decidedly overpriced now the hype has died down? Well, you're probably better off nabbing a netbook anyway. And the new Asus Eee PC S101, revealed last week, might just fit the bill.

Asus has just slapped down a price tag for the new machine – £449. That takes it beyond the pricey HP Mini–Note and into the realms of proper lappies, but it's worth remembering you're getting some heftier specs than your average netbook.

Inside there's a 64GB SSD, 2GB of RAM and a 10.2in screen, making it a darn sight easier to use than its 8.9in cousins. Add to that a far sharper looking design and it's almost worth playing out that 450 nicker. And don't forget it'll drop in price as soon as it starts selling.
