They’ve been over a year in the pipeline but Panasonic has finally announced what will be the UK’s first Blu-ray recorders – the DMR-BS850, and its little brother the DMR-BS750.

Before you scoff and retort that the disc-less Sky HD and Humax’s Foxsat HDR will do you fine, it’s worth taking a look at their impressive specs.

With both recorders rocking twin Freesat tuners and monstrous hard-drives (500GB and 250GB respectively), they’ll be ideal for archiving stacks of subscription-free HD and recording two channels at once, not to mention acting as your standalone Blu-ray player.

Both players are also BD-Live compatible to give you access to online extras, and if you’ve got some AVCHD footage stashed on an SD card they’ll play that too thanks to their built-in SD slots.

If it’s just a standalone Blu-ray player you want, Panny also gave us more details of its new DMP-BD80 and BD60 decks. The former will be ideal for those with epic sound systems thanks to support for 7.1 channel analogue output and ‘High Clarity Sound’ tech, although the smaller and cheaper BD60 does still support Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD.

We’re just asking about prices and will update you as soon as we get them.
