PlayStation Network under attack once again
The PSN takes more fire, but luckily it’s not lethal
Sony’s chief information security officer Philip Reitinger has stated on the official PlayStation Blog that another security breach has been attempted on Sony’s PlayStation and online entertainment networks.
The attempts “…appear to include a large amount of data obtained from one or more compromised lists from other companies, sites or sources”, meaning that Sony itself isn’t to blame for the loss of information.
The attackers have tested the stolen lists of login details and passwords against login information in Sony’s database. Luckily only a minority of accounts have had identical matches – less than 0.1% of users are reported to have been affected and no credit card details have been compromised.
Victims of the attack can expect an email from Sony shortly. The tech giant is doing an admirable job of keeping gamers updated – having learned its lesson since the far bigger PlayStation Network security breach that took place earlier this year.
