Rember the MSI WindPad we saw at Computex? Now it’s back in this glossy set of pics which show off its curves to full effect. We’re also seeing the dock here (with what looks like a built-in speaker – more on that later). We’d expect the spec to look about the same on this Atom-engined tablet. That means it’ll run Windows 7 and have a 32GB SSD.
Round the back of the dock you can see the dual USB ports, mic and headphone jack, VGA display output and HDMI, plus a power socket. Interestingly, it looks as though MSI has taken a cue from Apple’s MacBooks here by planting all the socketry on one edge.
There’s that speaker grille on the back of the dock again. Two complaints: one is that even an external speaker solution built into the dock is unlikely to rattle your windows, the other is that this looks like a bit of a dust trap. Then again, we don’t see anyone coming up with a better idea.
Get your docks off… here’s the WindPad 100 as God intended. You can see the port panel protrudes from the base a bit, which could be annoying for gadgeteers who demand a pebble-smooth tablet in their hands. Those thumb tabs on the right look pretty useful, though. Let’s hope they’re not too flimsy.
Here’s the stripped down ports panel on the actual tablet. Enough for docking (via what looks like a proprietary dock connector), but you’re going to lose out on a USB port on the go. Which is probably not a big deal at all. It’s possible MSI has hidden a second on the left edge, but we’d rather live without than spoil a perfect side.
