Orange and T-Mobile are set to cosy up together is a massive UK merger that would see them create the largest mobile network in the UK.
The deal between France Telecom (Orange) and Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile) UK wouldcreate a supercompany with around 37% of the UK mobile market, overtaking competitor O2.
The deal, set to be approved in November is promised to “bring substantial benefits to UK customers” including expanded network coverage andf improved customer services. Whether or not EU Competitions commission will have anything to say about this is another matter.
Given that both Orange and T-Mobile are in the running to carry the iPhone 3G when its O2 exclusivity runs out next month, the merger news will certainly give O2 some sleepless nights – maybe it should sign a deal with Vodafone?
