Once upon a time there was a thing called HD-DVD and Toshiba loved it so. But they had a bad break-up and now Toshiba is set to join the Blu-ray Disc Association. Toshiba Blu-ray players are coming this year.

We told you Toshiba was readying a Blu-ray player earlier this year but now the firm has gone the whole hog and wants to joing the hi-def hottie’s fanclub – the Blu-ray Disc Association.

Toshiba’s statement – a kind of embarrassed love letter to its rival’s wife – says Blu-ray boasting Toshiba products will hit the shops “this year”. With references to DVD Recorders, HDTVs and laptops expect Blu-ray to slip into all of those devices.

It’s safe to say there’ll be a Toshiba Blu-ray player within the next couple of months but we’d quite like a laptop too and maybe a recorder. That sound all right to you Tosh?
