You can always count on iRiver to bring a suitcase full of slightly leftfield gadgetry to CES, and it hasn’t disappointed this year. Alongside a promising new flagship PMP it’s announced its long-awaited Wi-Fi phone and a strange home networking gizmo.
First, that PMP. Rocking a 4.3in, 480×272 touchscreen, the P7 is lining its cross-hairs directly at the Archos 5’s temple. It’ll be available with 4GB, 8GB or 16GB of flash memory and, of course, comes with a comprehensive roster of features, including an FM radio, voice recorder, microSD slot and, apparently, 50 hours of audio playback.
The W10 WAVE Wi-Fi phone, meanwhile, is iRiver’s answer to Netgear’s Skype phone, and packs a 3in WQVGA touchscreen, 4GB of memory, an FM radio and web browsing capability.
But most curious of all is the WAVE-HOME. Essentially a home networking gizmo, it leads a double life as a VoIP phone and controller for your home network thanks to its 7in, 800×480 touchscreen. There’s also a 1.3MP camera, USB connectivity and SD slot, making it a very curiously shaped UMPC. And one that, sadly, may struggle to justify getting shipped over to the UK.
