Sharp has unleashed a premium pair of home cinema products just in time for Christmas.

First up is the Aquos LC-46D65E, a 46in flagship LCD television with a full HD 1080p resolution and 20,000:1 contrast ratio. The piano-black gogglebox comes loaded with high-end features, including Dolby Digital audistry sound, and sports three HDMI inputs as well as a frame so skinny it makes Lily Cole look like Jo Brand.

In these green-tinged times it’s also nice to know it proudly sports an Energy Saving Recommended badge, along with a low-power standby mode and an energy-save picture setting (which uses a dimmer backlight).

It’s out now for around £900.

Also new on the scene is the BD-HP21H Blu-ray player, which is Sharp’s second hi-def disc spinner. Out now and costing around £250 (pretty reasonable by Blu-ray standards), it delivers 1080p pictures at a movie-esque 24 frames per second and sidesteps standard Blu-ray player sluggishness by featuring a 10-second quick start mode. Again, Sharp’s keen to emphasise its greenness, saying it uses only 0.5W of power in standby.

Annoyingly it won’t allow users to access BD-Live bonus content, as it conforms only to Blu-ray Profile 1.1 rather than 2.0. Humph.
