Our juke box jury gave the original hard-disk toting Giga Juke NAS-50HDE four stars for its impressive range of features and frankly stunning user interface.
Now Sony’s back with two new models, one, it assures us, a cut-price everyman model and the other a multi-room tastic black box that’ll stream wirelessly around the house.
Starting at the top, the NAS-SC55PKE, is a true party Meister – now with boosted capacity for up to 40,000 songs, all pinched from a PC wirelessly or ripped at 16x speed from a CD.
It’ll pipe its music to up to five wireless receivers around the house with different tunes going to each or – in party mode – have all five pumping out the same sweet sounding notes.
The entry-level NAS-E35HD gets the same modest 80GB hard drive as the NAS-50HDE but drops the CD ripping speed to a more pedestrian 4x – taking 15 minutes to clear a one hour album.
It’s been slimmed down to look more like the music hogging beast it really is, but still finds room for radio in both DAB and anaolgue forms and, of course, a CD player.
Both set ups also come with Bluetooth for transferring songs to your phone and iPod docks for playing nice with your Apple gear. They’ve also got Sony’s nifty tagging feature for filling in the track deets automatically.
No prices on either but Sony is promising that the NAS-E35HD will open up the Giga Juke to a whole new bunch of gadgeteers, so expect it to be significantly cheaper than the current £500 entry price.
