Just when we thought everyone had given up competing with Sky+, along comes Panasonic with this incredible recorder. The DMR-EH60 is the first ever hard drive and DVD recorder to feature a digital TV tuner – required for picking up Freeview’s 50-odd TV and radio stations – instead of an old skool analogue tuner. The hard drive’s meaty 200GB capacity has room for 355 hours’ VHS-quality footage or 44 hours of pristine recordings, several more than the Sky 160 PVR. Unlike Sony’s newest DVD recorder, this Panasonic isn’t dual layer – twice the capacity – but it does write to DVD-RAM, DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R discs. Other features include MP3 (standard), progressive scan video (very useful) and multichannel DVD-Audio playback (good for hi-res music fans). On paper, this looks like a winner. We’ll have a verdict for you in the mag as soon as we’ve tested it. The Panasonic DMR-EH60 is on sale now for £480 at Unbeatable
