Three cheers for HDTV! Since the TV gods announced its arrival, telly makers have been plunged into a frenzy of activity to deliver the perfect flatscreen set.
Japanese giant Toshiba has just thrown its conical hat into the ring with the brand new WLT66 range, which builds on its reputation for cutting-edge tech at decent prices.
The new range comprises four models: the 32in and 37in models boast WXGA (1380×768-pixel) resolution, while their 42in and 47in siblings have been blessed with 1920×1080-pixel resolution – that’s over two million pixels of lip-smacking detail.
All the LCD screens come fully loaded with bells and whistles too. Twin HDMI inputs will allow you to simultaneously hook up a HDTV tuner and Blu-Ray or HD-DVD deck. Toshiba has also managed to cram a digital TV tuner, component video inputs and two Scart sockets into each slim chassis. And for all you trendsetters, each set also incorporates the company’s stylish Picture Frame design.
Finally, as if all these tech goodies weren’t enough, Toshiba is giving you the option of adding its SW1000 subwoofer to boost the kick of the built-in speakers. It won’t even take up any valuable floor space – it connects straight to the back of the TV.
The WLT66 range will be available from April, with prices starting at approximately £1200, while the optional SW1000 should cost around £150.
