Samsung could be building the Galaxy Note 6 to take a dunking
Iris scanner could be on the way too
Destroyed yet another phone by dropping it down the toilet? If pockets with zips aren’t an option, you might want to wait for the Galaxy Note 6.
Samsung’s upcoming phablet could be arriving with IP68 water resistance, which would put it on par with the Galaxy S7.
According to Sammobile, the phone will be able to survive half an hour underwater down to 1.5m, and will withstand a sandblasting should you get caught in a dust storm.
That would make it Samsung’s first weather-protected phablet – or at least a phablet with a pencil, seeing as the Galaxy S7 Edge has a 5.5in screen.
It sets up the Note 6 to be a bit of a monster, with a rumoured 5.8in AMOLED screen and whopping 6GB of RAM. Expect Android N to arrive on-board, and the same camera tech as the Galaxy S7.
That might not be all, either. Samsung fansite GalaxyClub spotted Samsung importing iris scanning camera components into India for R&D testing, ready to add to an upcoming smartphone.
The Galaxy S7 already has a built-in fingerprint reader, so iris scanning could bump security to the next level on the Note 6 – and give it an edge over Apple’s iPhone 7, which will probably drop around the same time.
We’re still keeping our fingers crossed Samsung will actually bring the thing to the UK this time, unlike the Note 5 which missed the boat.
If Samsung is sticking to the standard schedule, you can expect an official announcement at Berlin’s IFA show in September.
