The Orc says WAAAGH! – Dawn of War 3 is on the way

Space Marine, Orc or Eldar - pick your side

Warhammer the tabletop game? We’re not too fussed, to be honest. Warhammer the video game, though? Sign us up.

Yep, those tiny little figurines that are somehow popular enough to fill a chain of Games Workshop stores are coming back to the PC en masse in a new Dawn of War game.

Dawn of War III doesn’t mess about with rulers, dice and paint pots, though; the reveal trailer is a gloriously horrific tableaux of death and destruction.

Sega confirmed the game was in production today, with long-time developers Relic Entertainment at the helm.

Relic has a superb track record with strategy games, smashing two Dawn of War games out of the park and revitalising World War 2 with gritty RTS Company of Heroes.

It’s been seven years since the last Dawn of War, so it’s about time Sega green-lit a sequel. We might know it’s in the works, but practically everything else about Dawn of War III is a mystery.

The CGI reveal trailer looks stunning (and stunningly violent), but there’s no gameplay footage just yet. Relic says it’s looking to combine Dawn of War’s large-scale battles with Dawn of War II’s character customisation – we just don’t know how yet.

At least the trailer gives a clue as to what to expect from the new game: mainly huge battles between Orcs, Eldar and Space Marines, complete with colossal Titan units.

Expect “giant orbital laser strikes” too – which can only be a good thing.

There’s no release date yet, with Sega refusing to even nail down a year, so it could be a seriously long way off, but the simple fact Relic is working on the series again will be big news for fans.

Hopefully Relic will have more to share at E3 in June. In the meantime, you can sign up for the latest news at the Dawn of War website.
