Now we have front and back images of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge
Again, it's all very reminiscent of the Galaxy S6
Well, the cat’s really out of the bag on this one. Samsung has announced an event to unveil “The Next Galaxy” in three weeks, but front and angled images of the Galaxy S7 leaked on Friday, and now here’s the back too.
As with the earlier images, the above shot of the rear of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge comes from Evan Blass (@evleaks), who has a bit of a history with these things. He actually teased the backing shot a couple of days before posting the front-facing images, so we were just waiting for the other shoe to drop here.
If you’ve seen the Galaxy S6 models, then there’s not a whole lot different here – aside from the fact that the Galaxy S7 Edge comes with a 5.5in screen this time around, as opposed to 5.1in. There’s a small tweak to the flash components, and the edges and corners appear to have more of a rounded shape, otherwise it’s nearly the same, minimal backing we saw on the Galaxy S6.
And that matches up perfectly with the images from Friday, which also show nearly identical devices. Apple makes a habit of releasing back-to-back iPhones without significant design tweaks, but then again, they use a more befitting naming scheme for that approach. Calling this the Galaxy S7 might surprise some people, given the lack of noticeable change.
Still, word is that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will amend some of the issues that power users had with the Galaxy S6, including the use of much larger internal batteries and the reintroduction of microSD card support for expandable storage. Add a bump in processing power and RAM and IP67 waterproofing, and it ought to be a more capable riff on last year’s excellent offering.
We don’t know if all of the reports are true just yet, but since a lot of the details came from the same man who leaked these images (and stills from Samsung’s event announcement video in advance), we’re inclined to believe him. Samsung’s event takes place on Sunday, 21 February, and we’ll be there covering all the action.
