4K Dell XPS 12 to take on Microsoft’s Surface
If you like your Windows 10 tablet with a huge side order of pixels, Dell’s new 2-in-1 wants a word
It’s not just Apple that wants to muscle in on the high-end, productivity-focussed tablet market, apparently. This sector has generally been seen as the preserve of Microsoft’s Surface Pro range, but now even Dell is itching to get in on the action.
Details of a new Dell XPS 12 2-in-1 have leaked out, and it looks to be taking dead aim at the same customers who’d be considering shelling out their hard-earned notes on a Surface Pro 3.
According to the leaked document, the XPS 12 has a backlit keyboard with “precision touchpad”, Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, 10 hours of battery life, 8MP rear camera and 5MP front camera, and a Dell Active Stylus.
Probably the most arresting revelation, however, is that its 12in screen has a 3840 x 2160 resolution. Yep, that’s a 4K screen – something the Surface Pro 3 (with its 1920 x 1080 screen) certainly can’t claim to have. The as-yet-unannounced Surface Pro 4? Well, that’s another matter entirely.
There’s no word on price just yet, but with the device slated for an October release we’ll doubtless hear something official soon.
