LG’s new flip phone runs Android, is inexplicably called the Wine Smart

You just can’t satisfyingly begin and end phone conversations any more.

Screaming at a PPI salesman and angrily pressing the onscreen end call button just feels lame, and tapping a green button to answer calls lacks flair.

Enter the LG Wine Smart – a modern day clamshell handset which blends together all the charm of a noughties handset, with the modern smarts of Android.

Previously announced in Korea as the LG Gentle (seriously, what is up with these names), the Wine Smart will be landing in the UK, France, Poland, Spain and Japan at an unannounced date.

Spec fiends won’t exactly be blown away by the 3.2in 480 x 320, 1GB of RAM, 1.1GHz quad-core processor and 4GB of memory, but there is at least a microSD slot. Take that, Samsung Galaxy S6.

Both the front and rear cameras sound shocking, with a VGA front-facing snapper and a rear 3MP camera. Remember when 3 megapixel smartphone cams were the bees knees? We sadly do.

The Wine Smart will leave a substantial bulge in your pocket too, measuring in at a practically obese 16.6mm.

Still, it’s running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop (which means all the latest apps), and it’ll probably go rather easy on your wallet, while bestowing upon you all the nostalgic street cred you could ever want.
