First look at the real giant robot head built for Pacific Rim
Guillermo del Toro shows off his theme park ride style set that saw the actors suited up to a real machine
When it came to making Pacific Rim, a film about giant robots fighting giant monsters, the first thought on director Guillermo del Toro’s mind was – of course – realism.

So he built a life-size giant robot head that’s more like a theme park ride than a production studio. Luckless stars Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam were flung around and drenched for real – which we guess made it easier to sell their roles as the pilots of the Jaeger robots. It should make for a great final result when the film hits UK cinemas on July 12th.
