This connected coffin wants you to take Facebook tributes to the grave
Social screens and built-in speakers, for the ultimate in, um, tasteful respect
Death. OK, that might be a bit of a heavy start for a Thursday morning, but if there’s one thing we can be sure of it’s that we’ll all mortally meet our makers one day.
Obviously any self-respecting techthusiast will want to go out in the geekiest way possible – and that means checking out this new connected coffin.
The “Coffin of the Future”, as it is billed, is the brainchild of a company called Perfect Choice Funerals, and will come equipped with an external screen which can display moving memorial slideshows and, of course, live social media updates as the mourning comes pouring in. How very tasteful.
Fear not, though, for those physically in attendance to celebrate your life: this brilliant body box is also fitted with colour-changing light panels for which the deceased can select their favourite hue (presumably pre-mortem). It even comes complete with integrated speakers, so that the eulogy can be projected for everyone’s enjoyment – because respect for the dead is so last century.
Is it real? Thank Death and everything else, it’s just a mockup – made by PerfectChoiceFunerals.com to illustrate what future corpse-containers might just look like.
Call us old-fashioned, but we’d prefer something a little, well, subtler. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and it’s oh-so-wrong to Facebook a funeral – let alone plastering it across the coffin. Thankfully, Perfect Choice doesn’t seem to have discovered Periscope.
