4000 people will get an LG G4 weeks before its official release – and you could be one of them

The south Korean tech giant is giving away its latest superphone ahead of its launch

Fancy testing an LG G4 before it officially hits shelves? Of course you do.

LG has announced that 4000 gadgeteers across 15 different countries will be able to test drive the upcoming G4 ahead of its release day.

Beginning in South Korea today and rolling out across the rest of the world over the next week, gadget fans in countries including the UK, Canada, France and Germany will be able to send in applications for a chance to be selected.

Successful applicants will receive a handset for a few weeks before its debut, and will be encouraged to complete various “assignments”, before sharing them on social media sites, of course.

Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company stated that “this would be an exciting and unique way to get [LG’s] most important mobile product of the year close to the public”, letting them try it out in the real world without focusing on benchmarks and numbers.

It might prove to be a good decision, given that the G4 is rumoured to land with Qualcomm’s older Snapdragon 808 processor, due to reported overheating issues with the 810 variant, currently found in the HTC One M9. If people don’t notice any drop in speed and performance before all the reviews with benchmarks come out, then the numbers are likely to seem less important.

The G4 is also expected to land with a leather (or faux-leather) case, a snappy f1.8 camera, 3GB of RAM, a 5.5in 2K screen, and the latest version of Android Lollipop, running LG’s latest UI.

We’ll know all the full details once it launches on 28 April, where we’ll bring you all the news, straight from the front lines. see you there.
