The Philips Fidelio AV series is a flexible home cinema system offering Dolby Atmos and Ambilight
The FB1 Dolby Atmos soundbar, FW1 sub-woofer and FS1 satellite speaker are all DTS Play-Fi compatible, too
Philips has revealed a new Fidelio AV series of products at IFA 2022 – the FB1 soundbar, FW1 sub-woofer and FS1 satellite speaker. All feature DTS Play-Fi hi-res multi-room connectivity meaning that different combinations of products can be put together from a bar and subwoofer up to a full surround system even up to 7.2.4.
The €899 Fidelio FB1 is obviously the most important product here – it’s a slim 7.1.2 soundbar featuring a whopping 15 drivers. Each of the left/centre/right channels has a pair of 2in midrange drivers mounted either side of a 1in dome tweeter. The drivers are mounted together for better integration at the mid and high-end.
There are also two 2.5in side-firing drivers and two 2.5in dedicated Dolby Atmos elevation drivers on top of the bar. This latter pair are angled at 20 degrees and have a horn-shaped baffle to ensure the sound projects into the room. Finally, there are two 3.5-inch subwoofers in their own enclosures to offer deep bass.
The add-on €349 FW1 wireless subwoofer offers a large down-firing 8in woofer alongside two side-mounted large passive radiators in a rigid, reinforced cabinet – you can pair two of them to the soundbar should you wish.
Finally, the €329 FS1 wireless speaker can be used as a single unit, stereo pair or as satellites. It boasts a front firing 1in soft dome tweeter, a 2.5in up-firing mid-range unit and a down-firing 3.5in woofer. If it’s paired with the soundbar, the up-firing unit is used as a dedicated Dolby Atmos driver. One of the most interesting features of the FS1 isn’t sound-related; it includes LED lights designed to synchronise with a Philips Ambilight TV to extend the effect of Ambilight further through the room.
