Garmin’s Descent Mk1 is a GPS-enabled dive computer for underwater explorers

If you tuned into the epic Blue Planet II premiere this weekend (and if you didn’t, get that corrected pronto) you’ll probably agree that life under the sea is way more exciting than boring old land. The Little Mermaid‘s Sebastian was right all along. It’s a good time, then, for Garmin to unveil the Descent Mk1, its first wearable dive computer. Designed for divers of any standard, it uses surface GPS to mark entry and exit points into a dive log which can be uploaded to Garmin’s app for analysis. In addition to multiple dive modes you’ll find specific activity profiles for a variety of sports, as well as a 3-axis compass, heart-rate monitor and standard smartwatch notifications. Just remember a camera for your Attenborough-rivalling discoveries. The Garmin Descent Mk1 will be available from Q4 2017, starting at £1000.
