HTC to launch smartwatch and tablet by end of 2014
HTC’s smartwatch will be a real looker, promises company chairwoman Cher Wang
HTC will likely launch a smartwatch by Christmas – and it may well be joined by a tablet.
HTC chairwoman Cher Wang told CNET that the smartwatch is definitely coming before the end of 2014, and promised that it would put style and design front and centre, as well as concentrating on delivering long battery life.
HTC’s facility with design is proven (the HTC One is probably the most desirable smartphone ever) – if the company can apply that approach to smartwatches exciting things might happen.
Last week Bloomberg reported that HTC’s watch will be based on the Qualcomm Toq (pictured above), which features an E-Ink screen and thus a mammoth battery life – and says that there may be another model heavily built around Google Now.

Back in the tablet game
Wang also mentioned tablets, saying that HTC could launch a slate this year. That might not sound particularly interesting, but given that HTC has recently kept its beak out of the tablet market to concentrate on phones, it’s definitely news. What shape the tablet might take remains a mystery: will HTC aim for the 7in or 10in markets?
When asked about the successor to the HTC One, Wang noted that all will be revealed at its official launch on 25th March. We’ll be there to give you all the details.
