Wikipad gaming tablet specs outed
Cloud gaming is coming to the Android powered gaming tablet compliments of Gaikai
The Wikipad – an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean powered gaming tablet – is coming later this year and, thanks to a partnership with Gaikai, will be bringing cloud gaming.
Specs on the Wikipad have been revealed, but they may be revised before release. Not that the Wikipad will need much of a boost, since the current specs include a 1.4GHz Tegra 3, 1GB RAM, 16GB storage and a 10.1in IPS display with 1280×800 resolution. Glasses-free 3D was rumoured as a feature – although it’s been abandoned for the first version of the tablet, it may crop up on later versions.
While we’re excited about the gamepad-dock – which gives you a full set of physical controls but can be removed for normal tablet use – the cloud gaming partnership with Gaikai is a little unusual. Sony recently bought the company and the Wikipad is in direct competition with the PSP. Whether Sony ends up nixing Gaikai on the Wikipad, its Android innards should still be able to support OnLive – so there’s plenty of reason to be excited. Sit tight for more details on pricing and release dates as we get them.
