What to look for in new smartphones & accessories

If it’s quirky add-ons you’re after, there should be no shortage this Black Friday. From chargers to cases, there are savings big and small to be found. Just make sure anything you snap up is compatible: power banks, for example, might charge any device, but many are optimized for specific handsets. If you want your iPhone juiced in record time, it pays to choose wisely.

As for phones themselves, a good place to start is our list of the 10 best smartphones in the world right now. It’s a jungle out there, and it’s good to know what you’re looking for.

Black Friday regularly sees both Sim-free and contract deals getting the discount treatment, so be sure to have your calculator at the ready. Nowadays, big data bundles are par for the course – so don’t get sucked in by a cheap handset if the monthly allowance is meagre.

A smart move would be to look at last-gen phones you’d be happy to scoop up if the price was right. With Google’s Pixel, the iPhone 7 and OnePlus’ 3T all new releases in 2016, older models – such as previous Nexus and Apple devices – could well hit the Black Friday shelves with bank-friendly price tags.

Finally, don’t go snapping up anything that doesn’t do what you need it to.
