Clear render of the LG G5 leaks ahead of Sunday reveal
And it seemingly confirms the earlier leaked photos
Sunday is the big day, as LG has confirmed the coming announcement of the G5 – and if the leaks are any indication, Samsung has the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge to show, as well. But lately, Internet leaks have been more and more about the G5.
Earlier this week, someone in Dubai was trying to sell a supposed lost or stolen LG G5 prototype (seen below) from the States, although the listing was pulled. And now, leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) has shared what appear to be clean renders of the G5 – and it’s very similar (although not 100% identical) to the phone we saw a few days ago in those blurry photos.
While low-res, the render affirms the look and shape of the LG G5, which is a significant departure from the LG G4. It’s a curvy, metal-centric device with a dual-camera setup on the back, as well as a fingerprint sensor that appears essentially identical to the one in LG’s Nexus 5X. From the render, it doesn’t look as though the G5 has the LG V10‘s second “ticker” screen above the main display, as was rumoured.
As for the metal bottom, it’s reportedly a removable "Magic Slot," which lets you quickly plug in an extra battery or use one of multiple planned accessories. One is reportedly the Hi-Fi Plus, a DAC module built with Bang & Olufsen to allow Hi-res audio playback. Another is said to be a camera add-on with physical buttons, plus there’s talk of a spherical VR camera attachment and another used to control a robot toy.
Otherwise, rumours suggest a Quad HD screen at either 5.3in or 5.6in, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with either 3GB or 4GB RAM, and a 2,800mAh battery pack – although the swappable nature means a modest pack isn’t such a huge concern.
We’ll find out for sure on Sunday, and we’ll be there to bring our first impressions of the LG G5, the Samsung Galaxy S7, and all of the other wondrous gadgets revealed at MWC 2016.
