eyeSight pioneers gesture controls using just a webcam

That’s right: a standard camera is capable of reading 3D gestures thanks to a new technology

What if you could use your existing laptop webcam as detector for 3D gesture control? With eyeSight, that’s exactly the goal.

The new technology, which is 100 percent software-based, allows a standard camera to detect depth and track motion in 3D, allowing for a measure of gesture controls for which you’d normally require additional hardware.

From the looks of the demo video above, the control isn’t as precise or responsive as, say, Leap Motion – but then what did you expect? This is all using hardware that you already have.
