Facebook for BlackBerry PlayBook gets much needed update

Facebook gets a BlackBerry PlayBook-shaped update… and it's about time

Today, RIM has made the not-so-exciting announcement that a new version of Facebook for the BlackBerry Playbook is now available to download. Not exactly hard-hitting tablet news, granted, but this must be pretty exciting news for the social few who made the PlayBook purchase.

The update brings the application up to version 2.1, bringing to the table one of Facebook’s most useful features – Facebook Groups. This means users will be able to generate and take part in group discussions, get bombarded with incessant group updates, share content with friends, view groups, send messages and view notifications directly via the app, as opposed to firing it up in the browser to access these commonplace features. The update also brings with it improved photo and video viewing, coupled with intuitive uploading of your own snaps and movie masterpieces using the Photo tab.

A little late to the party, the update comes at a time when other platforms such as iOS and Android are getting enhanced versions of Facebook, inclduing the new Timeline feature. Still, if you want in, the Facebook update is available from BlackBerry App World now. Don’t all rush at once.
