First Captain America: Civil War trailer sets the tone for Marvel’s next movie arc
It's Cap and crew against Iron Man and pals, and the first look is awesome
This summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron didn’t quite reach the soaring heights of the original Marvel mash-’em-up, but don’t worry: Marvel has a potentially even bigger flick coming in six months, and the first look is pretty spectacular.
Captain America: Civil War is the third standalone film for the iconic hero, but it brings together as many Marvel greats as either Avengers film. Not convinced? Just take a look at the very first trailer below, which debuted overnight and generated massive praise from most corners of the Internet.
Inspired by the Civil War comic arc but apparently not following it too closely, the trilogy-capper sees world governments trying to place limitations on superheroes. Captain America and his newly reformed pal the Winter Soldier disagree with the notion, while Iron Man is pro-regulation. As the title implies, there’s a bit of a conflict about it.
Most (but not all) of the Avengers leads return for Civil War, along with the first appearance of Black Panther (played by Chadwick Boseman) – as seen in the trailer – before his own standalone movie comes in 2018. And although you don’t get a glimpse of it, Civil War will also debut the new Spider-Man (portrayed by Tom Holland) that’s part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And Spider-Man gets his own film reboot in 2017, too.
Luckily, you won’t have to wait that long for Captain America: Civil War: it’s due out on 29 April 2016 in the UK, with the U.S. release following on 6 May. The next Marvel Cinematic Universe film thereafter, Doctor Strange (starring Benedict Cumberbatch), will release on 28 October in the UK and 4 November in the States.
