HP makes webOS open source
The mobile platform has been thrown to developers to try and save it
HP has made webOS, the mobile platform running on this year’s TouchPad tablet, open source in a last-ditch attempt to save the OS.
The idea is that enthusiasts and developers will jump all over the chance to mess around with the code and create some webOS apps and goodies for the 750,000 people who snapped up the bargain tablet and anyone with a Palm smartphone. Head over to HP’s webOS developer blog to contribute suggestions.
HP isn’t ruling out making a tablet comeback should its experiment prove successful. Yes, the TouchPad was itself supposed to be a comeback but we wouldn’t have made it all the way to Rocky V if there’d been no obstacles in the way, now would we?
If you’ve got some hardware running webOS lying around, you know what to do.
