Huawei P9 reveal looks locked for early April
Twitter leakers can't settle on a date, but London launch seems likely
There might not be too long to wait until Huawei’s dual camera-packing P9 superphone gets an official reveal.
According to the man behind @evleaks Evan Blass, the P9 will be arriving in early April. He originally said it would be the 6th, but a follow-up tweet from part-time leaker @fullmoonleaks corrected that to the 5th.
Seeing as that account has been mostly dormant since July 2015, we’re putting our faith in Blass, although he did say he was only told a number of days to go until the announcement, and admits his maths may have been off.
We might know where the P9 will be getting revealed, too. A tweet reply from German site Huawei Blog said London had been chosen for the launch event.
In case you’d forgotten why it’s worth getting excited about the P9, recent leaks have shown off the dual rear cameras, massive 3900mAh battery, USB type-C port and 5.2in, QHD screen.
A Huawei-made Kirin CPU and 3GB of RAM should be more than fast enough for Android Marshmallow.
There could be as many as four variants, too; the standard P9, a higher capacity P9 Premium, an oversized P9 MAX and an entry-level P9 Lite.
April could end up being a busy month for smartphone launches. Beyond Huawei, it looks like the HTC 10 might get an official reveal, with leaked renders proudly displaying April 19 on the lock screen.
That screen has the location set as New York – possibly a clue as to where HTC will make the announcement.
We’ll know for sure about both phones in a few weeks, but if any more juicy info leaks out ahead of time we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
