Huawei wants the P9 to change the way you see the world on April 6
London launch event confirmed for dual camera-packing smartphone
Well that should put all the speculation to rest – Huawei just sent out invites to what will almost certainly be the reveal of the P9.
Rumours started circling last week that we’d get an early April announcement, and the twitter talk turned out to be right – Huawei’s just invited the media to London on the 6th of April.
The invite doesn’t exactly spell out what to expect, of course; instead we’ve got a cryptic teaser.
“Change the way you see the world” and the #OO twitter hashtag are both pretty major nods towards the P9’s dual rear camera setup though.
We saw as much in a series of leaked photos that appeared online a few weeks ago, revealing the front and back of the phone and confirming that Huawei was trying something a little different for its latest flagship phone.
The latest reports hint that lens maestros Leica might be behind the cameras, and that the P9 will be packing some hefty hardware. Expect a 5.2in, QHD screen, a Huawei-built Kirin CPU and 3GB of RAM.
We’re still expecting up to four models, with a more powerful P9 Premium, an oversized P9 MAX and an entry-level P9 Lite on the cards as well as the standard P9.
Other reasons to get excited include a potentially massive 3900mAh battery and a USB type-C port on the bottom of the phone.
We’ve got the 6th of April circled in our diary, and will bring you all the news once Huawei makes it official.
